Admissions Alumni Volunteer Program

Alumni admissions volunteers from across the country assist the Undergraduate Admissions Office in recruiting and yielding qualified students for Penn State by sharing their Penn State experiences during prospective and admitted student recruitment activities. It is the "personal touch" by alumni volunteers that often encourages students and families to become part of the Penn State family.

Become an Admissions Volunteer

Join us to help grow the Penn State family by emailing recruitment@psu.edu to get started. You will be connected with the program coordinator and sent the official training needed to volunteer. Ways to Get Involved

Our Alumni Admissions Volunteer Program offers a lot of ways for you to share your Penn State pride and connect with prospective and admitted students.

LionsROAR is the name we use to describe our outreach to admitted students. It is a way for our alumni volunteers to welcome newly admitted students into the Penn State family, congratulate them on their offer of admission, be a resource for quick questions, and demonstrate that a large university can still be personable. Due to switching internal systems, the portal we used in the past is not currently being monitored.

We send an email to all students accepted to Penn State from the assigned volunteer. Once a student reaches back out with specific questions, we forward the email to the alum assigned to that high school and ask that the alum respond to the student and copy their Territory Manager. We also have the option to do this outreach via handwritten postcards to roughly 20 students assigned to you.

We think LionsROAR is vitally important to the success of yielding students to say yes to Penn State!

You would be responsible for distributing admission brochures to your assigned high schools in your area by dropping off an admissions packet at the front desk or security gate of the high school. If a counselor is available when you drop off the material, you can introduce yourself as an alumni volunteer that is an additional Penn State resource in the local area.

Our alumni network is a big part of what makes Penn State so special, and we want future students to hear from you about why you chose Penn State and how it's helped you since graduating. These testimonials can be offered in a written or video format that will be added to our website.

Each Territory Manager hosts Prospective Receptions (PR) that act as an information session for prospective students who may not be able to make it to campus for an official visit. Territory Managers also host Admitted Student Events for students in the area that have an offer of admission to any Penn State campus. At both events, we always love to have alumni there to share their Penn State experience and be an additional resource to answer student questions.

We often get questions from students asking if they can speak to a Penn Stater who studied in their field, and we want to connect you with students who can benefit from your personal experience! You will also likely be speaking with students outside of your local area, as these conversations will happen via email and phone. Once our team matches you with a student, your Territory Manager will reach out and provide you with the student's contact information!

You can attend a college fair on behalf of Penn State either on your own or with a Penn State representative to help distribute materials to interested students and answer their questions.
