Athletics and Recreation

At Penn State, there is always something to cheer about.

From award-winning varsity athletics to intramural sports, all students, regardless of skill level, can continue their athletic pursuits in college. No matter what sport you play and whether you play for fun or competitively, athletics can be part of your Penn State experience. But if organized sports aren't your thing and you just want to burn off some energy and exercise, take advantage of the fitness facilities at your Penn State campus.

For student-athletes involved in intercollegiate athletics, Penn State has twenty-nine NCAA Division I teams at University Park. When you combine all twenty Penn State undergraduate campuses, there are more than seventy-five competitive NCAA Division III teams and one hundred teams that qualify for national championships through the USCAA.

Student Athletics

Penn State has one of the nation's most comprehensive and successful student athletic programs with twenty-nine varsity programs, most at the Division I level. Penn State’s twenty undergraduate campuses also boast more than seventy-five NCAA Division III and over one hundred PSUAC championship-winning teams.

Club Sports

Students can continue to compete at a high level without a full-time commitment. Penn State’s more than fifty club sports are student-run, and many require tryouts for team selection. Available club sports vary at each campus, but you'll find a wide range no matter which campus you attend.

Intramural Sports

If you’re looking for some friendly competition with your classmates and others on campus, intramural sports are year-round fun for students of any skill level. Penn State offers more than thirty IM sports including soccer, basketball, football, and squash.

Take advantage of the many fitness and recreation facilities, classes, and training at your Penn State campus, with hundreds of weekly fitness classes, opportunities to become a student fitness instructor, and group and personal training options.
