Behrend swimmers win AMCC championships

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s swimming and diving teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships and placed second overall at the SUNYAC-AMCC meet in Buffalo, New York. Tim Compton, a senior from Pittsburgh, and Camryn Watters, a sophomore from Greensburg, were named Swimmers of the Meet.

Compton won the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:52.73. He also won the 400 individual medley, finishing in 4:04.16. Anthony Tumino, a junior from Hershey, won the 200 free, setting a team record by finishing in 45.62.

Watters won the 100 backstroke, setting team, AMCC Meet and AMCC Open records with a time of 2:03.46. Logan Wilson, a freshman from Hermitage, won the 1,650 freestyle, finishing in 18:13.94.

Behrend’s basketball, track and field, volleyball, tennis and wrestling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 79, Alfred State 46

Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored a game-high 28 points. He was 11-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Matthew McDonough, a junior from Pittsburgh, added 19 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 91, Alfred State 49

Morgan Altavilla, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored 20 points for the second-straight game. Alania Fabin, a freshman from Indiana, scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She also had five steals and four assists.

Men’s track and field

Alex Cotton, a junior from Saxonburg, won the shot put at the Last Chance Qualifier Meet with a 15.69-meter throw. David Friedrich, a sophomore from North Collins, New York, won the 400-meter race, finishing in 52.84 — a personal best. The 4x4 relay team — Teddy Ola Jr., Jake Egizio, Kody Klein and Aidan Reinsel — also won, finishing in 3:37.00.

Women’s track and field

Bethany Litwiler, a junior from Reynolds, won the 5,000-meter race at the Last Chance Qualifier Meet, finishing in 20:09.05. Ivy Laffan, a senior from Waterford, won the 400-meter race, finishing in 1:03.97. Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, won the 200-meter race, finishing in 8.13 — a personal best.

Men’s volleyball

Nazareth 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Kyle Hoffman, a junior from Carlton, had 12 kills against Nazareth. Setter Luke Mumpower, a junior from North Huntingdon, had 25 assists, four kills, three digs and two aces against Bethany.

Men’s tennis

Otterbein 7, Penn State Behrend 0

Aidan Piazza, a senior from Fairview, went to extra sets at No. 6 singles, falling 7-5, 6-7 (4-7) and 5-10.

Wrestling

Story Buchanan, a freshman from Girard, was 4-1 at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Invitational. He had two wins by pin and two by decision and placed second in the 165-pound class.
