YORK, Pa. — Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Penn State York swept Penn State Scranton on Tuesday, Feb. 20, to clinch playoff spots in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). The women beat Scranton 97-37, while the men topped them 92-56.

The women officially clinched the No. 2 seed in the PSUAC East, while the men sealed the No. 1 seed.

Also, at the game on Feb. 20, Jayda Simmons, a Penn State York student and volleyball player, was a contestant in the half-court shot competition for a chance to win a 65-inch television. She was the 13th contest in the competition that began in January, and she made the shot. At each home game, one contestant had the opportunity to take a shot during the half-time of the men’s and women’s games.

Quarterfinals

Thanks to the success of the men’s and women’s teams, Penn State York is set to host the first round of the PSUAC Quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 26, in the gym of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center on campus.

The women will host No. 3 seed, Penn State Brandywine on Monday but also play the team Friday, Feb. 23, at 6:15 p.m. in the final regular season game. The men’s team will play at 8:15 p.m. this Friday against Penn State Brandywine but their opponent in the quarterfinal is yet to be determined. The results of the men’s game on Feb. 23 will determine the third and fourth seed in the division.

Penn State York will honor seniors on the teams during the Feb. 23 home game.

In addition to men’s and men’s basketball, Penn State York offers baseball, golf for men and women, men’s soccer, and women’s volleyball. Learn more about Penn State York athletics at https://pennstateyorksports.com/.
