Grammy-nominated songwriter Jim Brickman to perform at Penn State York

The Pullo Family Performing Arts Center to host concert on Feb. 24; offers a slate of additional shows throughout spring

YORK, Pa. — Jim Brickman, who is best known for his love songs and piano ballads, is set to perform "HITS LIVE! In Concert" at the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center at Penn State York on Saturday, Feb. 24. This Grammy-nominated songwriter will bring his most popular songs, “Love of My Life,” “Angel Eyes,” and of course, “Valentine,” to the Pullo Center stage.

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster, and range from $30 for standard tickets to $75 for VIP tickets, which include a post-show meet-and-greet with Brickman.

According to his website, Brickman is one of the best-selling solo pianist of recent years, earning 22 number-one albums and 32 top 20 radio singles. His awards and recognitions include:

  • Two Grammy nominations
  • Gospel Music’s Dove Award
  • Two Society of European Stage Authors and Composers (SESAC) Songwriter of the Year Awards
  • Canadian Country Music Award

He is also a member of Pandora’s Two Billion Streams Club.

Personal life and career

Brickman was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and began his career writing jingles for advertisements. He went on to write popular romantic music, with his albums selling millions worldwide.

In addition to his music career, Brickman has written three best-selling books, starred in five television concert specials, and hosts a radio show titled, “The Jim Brickman Show.”

“I write music to be shared — to soothe, to inspire, to celebrate, to love. To me, music is the pure and simple soundtrack to life’s most memorable moments,” said Brickman.

“The Four Phantoms in Concert”

March 3 at 7 p.m.

Fans of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “The Phantom of the Opera” may be interested in seeing this musical quartet performing iconic Broadway songs. This musical act is overseen by two-time Grammy Award-winner David Caddick with music direction by Ryan Shirar.

“The Life and Music of George Michael”

March 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Musician George Michael was a 1980s pop icon whose life and music inspired millions. He rose to fame as a member of “Wham!” before setting out as a solo artist. His hit songs include, “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go,” “Freedom,” “Faith,” “Careless Whisper,” and “Father Figure.” The story of his life will be told through a concert-style show.

United States Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band

March 19 at 7 p.m.

For nearly 80 years, the United States Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band has entertained, educated and inspired millions across the east coast. Comprised of 45 professional aviators, the band tells the U.S. Air Force story and performs many great symphonic classics, marches, Broadway hits, jazz standards, movie music and patriotic favorites. This event is free to attend, but advance tickets are required, available starting Feb. 5.

2024 President’s Concert

March 23 at 7:30 p.m.

This concert is set to feature three acts:

  • Centre Dimensions is a 17-piece jazz ensemble at Penn State that frequently performs at the University Park campus.
  • Penn State Glee Club is Penn State’s oldest student organization that had its first spring tour in March of 1889.
  • Percussion Ensemble performs music written for four to 12 players, including contemporary music for all types of percussion instruments.

This event is sponsored by the Office of the President at Penn State, the Penn State Alumni Association, and the School of Music.

“iLuminate”

April 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Named "Best New Act in America" by “America’s Got Talent,” “iLuminate” is a multi-sensory live show experience that brings music, dance and light together to surprise and delight audiences.

“1964: The Tribute”

April 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as “The Best Beatles Tribute on Earth,” "1964" focuses on the moment in history when the Beatles played before a live audience, concentrating on the touring years.

“Profiles in Music: Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps Showcase”

April 20 at 6 p.m.

The Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps, from Hanover, Pennsylvania, will showcase some of the finest drum-and-bugle corps alumni on the east coast, along with other musical groups. This event has sold out each of its previous 10 performances, so guests are encouraged to purchase tickets early.

ENCORE: York County High School Musical Theatre Showcase

April 28 at 2:30 p.m.

More than 500 high school students from across York County will perform a musical finale to celebrate the talent of York County students. Tickets go on sale Feb. 12 at 10 a.m.
