DALLAS, Pa. — Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host Spend a Summer Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7. The event is an open house where interested students can visit the campus and learn about the opportunities available to them close to home.
“The power of Penn State Wilkes-Barre is that you find a community here that will support you for life,” said Alex Ellsworth, interim director of enrollment management. “That sense of community and belonging starts during the first visit at events like our Spend a Summer Day open house. Prospective students – whether traditional high school students or adult learners – get a chance to meet the staff who will guide them through the application and financial aid process, plus professors, future peers who share their interests and more. Attending the open house connects you to the close-knit, supportive community that many students say is their favorite part of Penn State Wilkes-Barre.”
Spend a Summer Day will feature an overview of Penn State Wilkes-Barre and the degree options available. Students can pursue one of four associate degrees or seven bachelor’s degrees at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. They can also choose to start their bachelor’s degree in one of more than 275 programs at the campus and finish at another Penn State campus, such as University Park through the 2+2 Plan.
Attendees will also learn about campus life, including athletics, clubs, activities, the honors program and other ways to get involved and meet new people. Representatives from Student Support Services, the Learning Center and Student Disability Resources, and the financial aid office will be at the event to share information. At Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 91 percent of students receive financial assistance. During faculty and student panels, those attending can ask questions of faculty, staff and current students.
Lunch, yard games and complete campus tours are included in Spend a Summer Day. The campus bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Penn State’s application fee is waived with a campus visit such as Spend a Summer Day.
Pre-registration is required for this event. Registrants will receive an email with a campus map, directions and additional information. Check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. All students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during the event.
