UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Police and Public Safety will host a free virtual presentation titled “I Said – You Said: Consent, Sexual Assault, Bystander Intervention, and Healthy Relationships” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.

Offered by the organization Campus Outreach Services, the interactive program will feature a case study of a sexual encounter between two students that is clouded by alcohol. The presenters, Travis Marshall, director and assistant dean of students at Rosemont College, and Amanda Blaugher, Title IX director at Gettysburg College, will confront common rape myths while addressing consent and incapacitation standards.

Participants will learn what constitutes valid consent, including the difference between coercion and seduction; how alcohol and other drugs impact decision-making abilities and whether consent is still valid; myths and stereotypes that contribute to and perpetuate sexual violence and how to dispel them; ways to clearly communicate with a partner about expectations and boundaries; and bystander skills and strategies, including how to intervene when seeing others in vulnerable situations.
