THON parking, traffic, and transit adjustments, Feb. 16-18

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Due to THON 2024 and other events taking place at the Bryce Jordan Center, Pegula Ice Arena, and other nearby venues this weekend, the following parking and traffic adjustments will be in effect:

Stadium West

The entire lot will be closed Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. each day. Vehicles already parked will not be required to exit, but those arriving to park during those hours must park at Jordan East, Porter North, or Porter South.

Orange L East and Jordan East

The Orange L lot located just east of the Bryce Jordan Center and a small section in the middle of the main Jordan East lot will be reserved from Friday through Sunday for THON families.

The small Jordan East lot across from the All-Sports Museum will be reserved for ADA parking from Friday through Sunday.

Silver J

Parking will remain open to permit holders, but please be aware that THON dancer drop-off will occur in Silver J. Traffic will be heavy in this lot and at the Hastings Road/Bigler Road intersection area from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday.

Yellow H

The Yellow H lot located south of Pegula will be closed all day Friday and Saturday for Pegula Ice Arena/hockey staff. The Yellow H lots at Shields and Wagner will be closed from 3 p.m. Friday through 7:30 p.m. Saturday for men’s hockey premium parking.

Traffic restrictions

With THON and numerous other events taking place on the east side of campus this weekend, heavy traffic and delays are expected. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area, if possible, and those attending THON are encouraged to walk, bike, or use transit in lieu of driving.

The following roadways will be temporarily closed on Friday for dancer arrival:

  • Curtin Road from University Drive to Commuter Drive will be closed from approximately 2 to 7 p.m.
  • University Drive from Hastings Road to Curtin Road will be closed from 3:50 to 4 p.m.

Transit impacts

Due to the closure of Curtin Road between University Drive and Commuter Drive from 2 – 7 p.m. Friday, the following impacts to CATABUS service to stops along Curtin Road near the Bryce Jordan Center and Porter Road will be in place during this time:

Blue Loop:

There will be no service to the stop along Curtin Road at the Bryce Jordan Center. Buses will detour as follows:

  • Left onto University Drive from Curtin Road
  • Right onto Park Avenue
  • Right onto Porter Road, where normal routing will resume.

Red Link:

There will be no service to the stops along Curtin Road at the Bryce Jordan Center and Stadium West. Buses will detour as follows:

  • Right onto University Drive from Curtin Road
  • Left onto Dauer Drive
  • Left onto Porter Road
  • Left onto Park Avenue
  • Left onto University Drive
  • Right onto Curtin Road, where normal routing will resume.

H Route:

Inbound

There will be no service to the stops along Porter Road at Beaver Stadium and Curtin Road at Stadium West. Buses will detour as follows:

  • Right onto Park Avenue from Fox Hollow Road
  • Left onto University Drive
  • Right onto Curtin Road, where normal routing will resume.

Outbound

There will be no service to the stops along Curtin Road at the Bryce Jordan Center and Porter Road at the Athletic Administration Building. Buses will detour as follows:

  • Left onto University Drive from Curtin Road
  • Right onto Park Avenue
  • Left onto Fox Hollow Road, where normal routing will resume.

HU Route:

Outbound

There will be no service to the stops along Curtin Curtin Road at the Bryce Jordan Center and Porter Road at the Athletic Administration Building. Buses will detour as follows:

  • Left onto University Drive from Curtin Road
  • Right onto Park Avenue
  • Left onto Fox Hollow Road, where normal routing will resume.

CATABUS service will operate on its normal schedule during the rest of THON weekend, but delays are possible. The campus Blue Loop, White Loop, and Red Link are free to all riders, while community service routes require a fare.

The no-fare Campus Shuttle will operate on its normal service schedule on Friday, but delays are possible during THON road closures.

Intercollegiate Athletic events

The following Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics events will also take place during THON weekend, and with heavy traffic expected, attendees should expect delays and allow extra time for arrival and departure:

Friday, Feb. 16

  • All day – Track and Field
  • 2 p.m. – Women’s ice hockey vs. RIT
  • 4 p.m. – Women’s lacrosse vs. Colorado
  • 5 p.m. – Men’s tennis vs. Liberty
  • 7 p.m. – Men’s ice hockey vs. Michigan

Saturday, Feb. 17

  • 11 a.m. – Women’s tennis vs. Delaware
  • 1 p.m. – Women’s ice hockey vs. RIT
  • 7 p.m. – Men’s ice hockey vs. Michigan

Sunday, Feb. 18

  • 10 a.m. – Women’s tennis vs. Yale
  • 1 p.m. – Men’s tennis vs. Old Dominion
  • 4 p.m. – Wrestling vs. Nebraska

Fans attending athletic events this weekend are encouraged to purchase their single game parking via ParkMobile for $5.50 through 11:59 p.m. the night before the event. For fans who have not prepaid and do not have a valid Penn State permit, parking will be $10 (cash only) on game day upon entrance to the lot. Hourly parking will also be available in the East Deck for $1 per hour.
