Student leadership/service and organization award applications now open

The Office of Student Activities is currently accepting nominations/applications for the Service and Leadership & Student Organization Awards which will be presented at the Student Affairs Awards Ceremony this spring. These awards recognize individual students and organizations for their outstanding leadership and service to the University.  Student leaders/organizations may be nominated by members of the University community or individuals may apply for these awards.

Each year, the Office of Student Activities, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, presents awards and scholarships to students who have been valuable contributors in the areas of leadership and service while at Penn State.

Applications and nominations for the Service and Leadership awards can be found on the Student Activities Service and Leadership Awards application website. Applications for the Student Organization Awards can be found on the Student Activities Student Organization and Involvement Awards application website All applications and nominations are open through Sunday, March 3.

“Developing leadership skills and becoming active citizens are essential components of a Penn State education,” said Darcy Rameker, director for Student Activities. “We are fortunate to have so many engaged students who are role models to others and committed to making a positive impact in their communities.” 

Student Leadership and Service Awards

In total, Student Activities administers twelve student leadership and service awards. The award applications/nominations open in early February and the awards are presented at the Student Affairs Awards Ceremony in April.

  • Jane Wood Reno Memorial Scholarship
  • Laurel Award for Outstanding Services
  • Mary Lee Hobbs Steel Emerging Leader Award
  • Partisan Award
  • Rose Cologne Keystone Citizen Award
  • Smile for Sam Scholarship
  • Stan Latta Dedication Scholarship
  • John and Veda Black Student Leader Scholarship

“These awards recognize students who have made significant contributions to Penn State and their communities. They give us an opportunity to thank student leaders for being active citizens while on campus and for their continued service and leadership upon graduation,” said Rameker.   

Student Organization and Involvement Awards

Student Affairs recognizes the outstanding work recognized student organizations at Penn State do at the closing of each spring semester. If your organization or an organization you know of deserves to be recognized, please submit a nomination. Award recipients are invited to the Student Affairs awards ceremony where they will be recognized on stage and presented with an award plaque. These awards are highly competitive, so submit an application for a deserving student organization!
