STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — State College Borough and PennDOT have announced a partial closure of College Avenue beginning Tuesday, Jan. 9, through Saturday, Jan. 13.
During this time, Massaro Construction will occupy East College Avenue between Hetzel Street and Sowers Street to remove a tower crane. This will cause all travel lanes, parking lanes and the sidewalk on the downtown side of College Avenue to be closed.
Downtown State College will remain accessible during this time; only one block of the roadway will be closed. Local traffic can utilize a detour onto Hetzel Street, to East Calder Way, to Sowers Street, and then back onto East College Avenue. Access to the Yellow T parking area behind Redifer Commons will remain available via College Avenue, but all vehicles will be required to enter and exit using the access point on the east side of the lot.
PennDOT will have a detour in place for through traffic. The detour will route traffic to University Drive, to Park Avenue, to Atherton Street, and back onto East College Avenue.
As a result of the closure, CATA's College Connector (CC) bus route will be detoured during this period. All other routes will operate as usual, but all riders should allow additional travel time due to anticipated traffic impacts as a result of the detour. For questions regarding CATA service, email cata@catabus.com or call the CATA customer service center at 814-238-CATA(2282).
The timeline of this project is weather-dependent. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling near work areas, and drivers should expect delays and allow extra time to reach their destination.
Questions regarding this closure can be directed to Michael Clements at 412-689-8569 or John Marks at 412-588-4304.
