UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – On March 8, the Penn State Office of Student Conduct suspended the Alpha Delta Chapter of Kappa Sigma through December 2024 for multiple violations of University policy.
The Kappa Sigma fraternity was placed on interim suspension on Oct. 23 while the Office of Student Conduct investigated allegations made against the fraternity. The allegations that resulted in the interim suspension included violations related to hazing; alcohol and/or drugs; failure to comply with a directive or condition, specifically COVID-19-related expectations; and University regulations.
While the first case was being finalized, the fraternity had another substantial violation of the University COVID-19 policies. Subsequently, the organization accepted all of the violations as well as the suspension.
The national organization has been notified of the suspension and has suspended the chapter’s operations pending a hearing before the national organization’s supreme executive committee to determine the status of the chapter.
“The University remains committed to a safe, successful, and sustainable fraternity and sorority community, which is achievable only when our students, alumni and others join us in that purpose,” said Damon Sims, vice president for Student Affairs. “Those organizations that fail to do so in ways that threaten others will face consequences, but we are grateful that most members of our Greek community continue to partner with us for the good of all.”
The suspension means the fraternity loses all privileges as a recognized student organization. The organization may not participate in, attend or organize any functions, activities or events, including University-wide events, or otherwise function as a sanctioned organization at Penn State.
