End of support for Duo Mobile app iOS 11 and Android 7

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Effective Dec. 1, Duo Security will end support of their Duo Mobile application for older operating systems iOS 11 and Android 7. Duo Security is recommending users upgrade to the latest iOS or Android versions because updated systems will better maintain a mobile device’s security and provide access to the latest features and improvements made to Duo Mobile and all other applications.

Duo Mobile, which is the application used for Penn State’s two-factor authentication (2FA), will continue to be fully supported on iOS 12 or Android 8 or newer. In addition, Duo Push and Duo Mobile-generated passcodes will continue to work on already-installed versions of the Duo Mobile app and users will continue to be able to authenticate. SMS-delivered passcodes and phone callback authentication are not affected by this change as these methods do not rely on Duo Mobile.

Beginning Feb. 1, 2021, devices running iOS 11 or Android 7 or older will no longer be able to install Duo Mobile from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. However, users who have already downloaded the Duo Mobile app on iOS 11 or Android 7 or older devices will continue to be able to authenticate using the app.

Penn State Account holders who want to unenroll or rename a device, reactivate Duo Mobile, or change various settings related to the 2FA process, may do so through the 2FA device management page within the Account Management portal. Penn State Health Account holders may manage their Duo devices at their respective Duo Security Enrollment page

To determine which software version is on your device, visit the iOS or Android support sites.
