UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — At the conclusion of fall semester finals week, most Penn State University Libraries locations across Penn State will be either closed to the public until after the new year or have limited operating hours until the beginning of spring semester classes on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.
Visitors are advised to check the University Libraries hours and locations web page prior to planning a visit.
On Friday, Dec. 20, some locations will close early. On the University Park campus, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will close at 5 p.m. to begin work to prepare the large library facility for extended closure during Penn State’s winter break.
Most locations will close to the public from Monday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 5, although nine locations at Commonwealth Campuses will have limited hours Jan. 2–3.
During Jan. 6–10, the week prior to the start of spring 2025 classes, most locations also will have limited weekday operating hours. All locations will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 11, with varying availability on Sunday, Jan. 12. That week, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will be open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed Saturday, and open 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12.
Library operating hours decisions are informed by historical data of gate counts (numbers of entries), staffing resources and budget. Holiday and early closing hours are informed by historically low numbers of library users leading up to and following Penn State’s winter break.
