UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries’ locations University-wide have posted their fall semester hours of operation effective when classes begin on Monday, Aug. 26.
Library hours vary across all locations, including University Park branch locations and Media Tech and at Commonwealth Campuses. All library hours are available online, listed by weekly view. For monthly hours click on each location’s calendar link below its name.
At the University Park campus, Pattee Library and Paterno Library hours for fall 2024 are 7:45 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Thursdays, 7:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to midnight Sundays.
During Labor Day weekend, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will have modified hours, closing at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30; operating 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1; and closed on Labor Day, Sept. 2 — and will be similarly closed on other campus-observed holidays. Modified hours of operation occur during the semester when classes are not in session, such as the fall break days prior to Thanksgiving, finals week and winter break.
In addition, the University Libraries’ Media and Technology Support Services at Wagner Annex on the University Park campus equipment rental access hours for students and instructors begin on Aug. 26. Its Patron Portal requires a reservation by those wishing to borrow equipment, and walk-in service is available. MediaTech also provides classroom technology support services for faculty and staff. Media Tech’s rental services hours are 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, closed weekends and holidays.
The University Libraries follows Penn State’s observed holiday schedule and weather-related cancellations and will be closed during those times. Changes to library hours based on inclement weather or other urgent conditions will be listed on each location’s webpage and through library alerts linked atop the University Libraries website. Visitors are advised to check a location’s hours prior to visiting, should severe weather or other conditions impact local service areas.
Planning library hours involves an ongoing review process. In recent years, this process has included reviewing user data — gate counts, circulation data, desk tracker data, etc. — while considering each library’s budget, its local community’s needs — such as library user preferences, services and materials — and, finally, available library staffing.
Penn State faculty, staff and graduate students at the University Park campus are invited to consider using the University Libraries’ Office Delivery Service, which directs requested library materials to departmental office addresses via campus mail, for their convenience.
