UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries will host a virtual Library Discovery Hour at noon on Tuesday, March 28, focusing on the recently acquired Toby and Betty Bruce Collection of Ernest Hemingway. The Penn State community is invited to register for the event, hosted on Zoom by the Libraries Development Board and University Libraries colleagues.
During the event, “From Key West to Penn State — the Journey of the Toby and Betty Bruce Collection of Ernest Hemingway,” Lexy deGraffenreid, head of Collection Services in the Eberly Family Special Collections Library, and Bob Darrah, director of Development, will share a behind-the-scenes look at how the University Libraries has acquired and is stewarding this remarkable collection.
The collection, which was acquired in October 2021 through donor support, positions Penn State in the top tier of repositories of Ernest Hemingway scholarly material, along with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston and Princeton University Library.
Library Discovery Hour is a hybrid series of virtual and in-person events created to give attendees an inside look at today’s Penn State University Libraries, a top 10 research library in North America. These programs offer a chance for attendees to hear from experts and students while learning more about the University Libraries and donors’ philanthropic impact, and an opportunity to network with other passionate Penn Staters.
A lineup of events for 2023 is being planned. Themes and locations are listed on the series web page, libraries.psu.edu/library-discovery-hour, which will be updated as future event details are finalized.
