UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries’ Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) has launched three innovative learning experiences for the fall 2024 semester. These experiences, designed to ignite creativity and foster hands-on learning, are now bookable and will be facilitated in the Dreamery, Penn State’s hub for exploring emerging technologies on the University Park campus.

New offerings include the following:

  • The AI Artist Lab is where participants will explore the creative potential of generative AI by crafting a virtual musical artist and a hit single. This full-class experience guides students through the process of using AI tools for text, images and audio to develop their artist’s name, album artwork, music and an inspiring promo reel. The lab culminates in a showcase of the participants' work, emphasizing the collaborative power of AI and human creativity in modern artistry.

  • In Reality Remix: Hands-On Encounters in XR, students will dive into the world of mixed reality, where digital and physical realities blend in immersive and interactive ways. This experience provides hands-on exploration of virtual and augmented environments, allowing participants to engage deeply with the capabilities of extended reality technologies.

  • Can AI Play? invites participants to discover AI’s role in creativity through an interactive workshop focused on game design. Small teams will use text-based AI tools to brainstorm and prototype a board game, with support provided to ensure a fun and engaging learning journey. This full-class experience showcases AI as a creative partner in the design process.

In addition to these new offerings, the popular IMPACT experience returns as a 30-minute bookable class. IMPACT is a card-based game designed to foster empathy and critical thinking by exploring how emerging technologies impact society. Participants engage in human-centered conversations, prompted by character and action cards, to reflect on the broader implications of technology’s impact on society.

These dynamic experiences are open to all Penn State faculty to book for their students, providing unique opportunities to explore the intersection of technology, creativity and learning. Instructors are encouraged to book their classes for visits to the Dreamery to take advantage of these innovative educational offerings.
