Libraries to offer virtual sessions on geospatial data and software in March

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries will host two virtual information sessions in March to introduce users to geospatial resources, software applications and data resources. Open to all Penn State faculty, staff and students, these sessions are designed to introduce users to resources available at Penn State and expertise available from the University Libraries.

In addition to these sessions, users are welcome to schedule in-person and virtual one-on-one research consultations offered by the Penn State University Libraries Donald W. Hamer Center for Maps and Geospatial Information.

Introduction to GIS Data and Software

March 1, 4-5 p.m. — Zoom registration

This session will introduce participants to geospatial data from U.S. and international sources, along with information on geospatial software access at Penn State, including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro. Additional geospatial applications available from Penn State University Libraries also will be highlighted, including Social Explorer, SimplyAnalytics, and PolicyMap. Introduction to ArcGIS Online, Story Maps, and Instant Apps

March 15, 4-5 p.m. — Zoom registration

This session will introduce participants to ArcGIS Online including web maps, StoryMaps, and applications. Users authenticate to the Penn State ArcGIS online account with their Penn State credentials to access geospatial data from authoritative sources as well as user-generated content, and to create their own content. These applications and data sources are applicable to multiple disciplines. More information on ArcGIS Online is available on the Maps & Geospatial: ArcGIS Online guide.
