CHICAGO — The American Library Association’s annual I Love My Librarian Award invites library users across the country to recognize their favorite librarians working in public, school, college, community college or university libraries for transforming lives and improving communities. More than 100 Penn State University Libraries faculty librarians work at locations across all Penn State campuses, including the College of Medicine, Penn State Dickinson Law and Penn State Law.
Nominations are being accepted online now through Sept. 30.
“Every day, librarians across the country go above and beyond to serve their communities by offering engaging programs and services, providing safe and inclusive spaces for library users of all backgrounds, connecting people in need with essential public services, and so much more,” said Faye A. Chadwell, dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications. “Submitting an I Love My Librarian Award nomination is a way to thank a Penn State librarian for their creativity, dedication and service.”
Ten librarians will be selected to receive $5,000 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their community. Honorees will be celebrated at an award ceremony during the American Library Association’s LibLearnX Conference in January 2025.
To be eligible, each nominee must hold a master’s degree in library and information studies from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a master’s degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. Nominees also must currently work in a public library, a library at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or a library at an accredited K-12 school in the United States, or have been working at one of these institutions as of March 1, 2024.
