UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Today, Penn State launched its new mobile id+ card, allowing students to use their iPhone, Apple Watch or Android device to access campus housing facilities and conveniently and securely make transactions such as purchasing meals across the University. 

“The University is one step closer to a seamless student experience,” said David Snyder, assistant vice president for Auxiliary and Business Services. “Now, students can use their mobile id+ card to access resources and complete transactions with just a simple tap of their device, giving our students the freedom and convenience of a digital campus.” 

With the new mobile id+ card, students can simply hold their device to a reader to access residence halls and commons buildings, make transactions using LionCash, access their meal plans, make purchases at vending machines and pay for laundry.  

Penn State is installing contactless and tap-to-pay technology through a phased approach at all campuses. Physical cards will remain necessary, as not all University locations will accept mobile-only transactions, and access to academic buildings and other facilities and resources may still require the physical id+ card to be present. 

Setting up the mobile id+ card 

Students can watch the step-by-step video illustrating how to set up the mobile id+ card on devices. To get started, download the Transact eAccounts app or access the Penn State Go app and select the id+ card icon. Either way, it will provide students with convenient access to set up their mobile id+ card. Visit the id+ card website for the links to download and access your mobile id+ card. 

Penn State is hosting mobile id+ card events across the University to support students and help them set up their mobile id+ card. For University Park, activities at the HUB-Robeson Center on Jan. 18, 19 and 20 will include food and giveaways to encourage students to activate their mobile id+ card. There also will be activities at Penn State Commonwealth Campuses for students who would like to learn more. “Student expectations for mobile use continue to increase. Penn State students want and expect to use their phones and smartwatches to make payments easily and securely, access spaces, order meals — the list goes on,” said Diane Andrews, associate vice president for Student Affairs. “We are excited to launch this new mobile experience at Penn State for current and future students.” 

Additionally, a separate process from the mobile id+ card is currently underway to provide new physical id+ cards for Penn State community members. Cardholders will receive a new physical credential in the spring of 2023 if they have not already received an updated card.
