Lion Ambassadors and local YMCA partner to fight hunger in the community Nov. 7

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students looking for a way to give back to their community at Penn State are invited to come to the Hintz Family Alumni Center from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, to package food for the YMCA's Backpack Program. The Penn State Lion Ambassadors, student representatives of the Alumni Association, are partnering with the YMCA of Centre County to combat hunger locally.

The YMCA's Travelin' Table mobile feeding bus also will be on site distributing food as the Lion Ambassadors pack backpacks, a YMCA program that provides food for more than 1,000 local school-age children each week during the school year.

"Our mission is exemplified through our four pillars: service, tradition, excellence and pride," said Lion Ambassador Committee Director Emma Chan. "For recruitment efforts this semester, we wanted to positively impact the community while also promoting the work Lion Ambassadors do. Since over 30% of Penn State students have reported experiencing food insecurity, we felt that this was a pertinent issue to tackle and bring more awareness to."

Lion Ambassadors' mission is to communicate Penn State's history and personality, strengthen University traditions, and instill Penn State pride in current and future students, alumni and friends. The application process for the 2023 class of Lion Ambassadors is now open — visit lionambassadors.com for more information.
