UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The 2022 Visual Arts Annual Graduate Research Exhibition will be on display from March 25 through April 17 in the HUB Gallery on Penn State's University Park campus. Established in 1986, the Graduate Research Exhibition hosted by the Graduate School places special emphasis on communicating research and creative endeavor to a general audience and offers an opportunity for professional development by challenging students to present their work to new audiences.
All are welcome to the opening Gallery Walk from 2 to 4 p.m. on March 25 to meet current visual arts graduate students and learn more about their studio practices. The exhibition's visual arts option is designed for students required to create studio work as a part of their graduate degree program and gives candidates the opportunity to demonstrate the significance of their ideas and creative research to jurors from outside of their field who score the works and award prizes.
This year’s Visual Arts Annual Graduate Research Exhibition features a variety of pieces speaking to the personal experiences of six different candidates. With a broad range of mediums spanning from ceramic to painting and fiber, each piece is compelling in its own way and demonstrates the diversity of artistic research by Penn State graduate students. The students’ works utilize creative symbolism to address critical issues such as the objectification of women, ecological concerns, and a broad range of intimate personal struggles.
The Penn State community is encouraged to visit the exhibition in person in the HUB Gallery to experience this diverse collection of artwork. The HUB Gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free for all, always.
The HUB-Robeson Galleries, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, welcomes and encourages class, office and student organization group visits. Student- and staff-led tours are available; email galleries@psu.edu, if interested. University COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
