UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — University Health Services (UHS), a unit of Student Affairs, has announced several significant updates to its facilities and services to enhance student’s health and well-being. UHS has renovated and upgraded its main lobby and physical therapy space while introducing the lactation room and community health resources.

Main Lobby

Students entering the Student Health Center will be welcomed by a newly renovated lobby designed for comfort and relaxation. The space features cozy seating, tables, newer check-in kiosks, and peer greeters. This inviting atmosphere is perfect for studying or waiting for pharmacy appointments.

Physical Therapy

The physical therapy space has been completely renovated on the first floor of the Student Health Center. The updated space features modern equipment, an open layout and new gym flooring, creating a more effective and welcoming environment for student recovery. With more gym space and a new check-in area, UHS can better serve students in need of physical therapy services.

“We are thrilled with the recent renovations of the physical therapy suite at UHS,” said Marc Lintal, director of physical therapy. “The updated space will improve both our patients’ rehabilitation experience and allow our staff more flexibility in providing top-quality physical therapy care. We look forward to using this space to continue expanding the opportunities for our students.”

Lactation Room

UHS now offers a private, fully equipped lactation room available to students, faculty and staff. The room, located in the community health hallway, room 201E, provides a comfortable space with amenities such as a massage chair, breast pump, changing table, diapers, wipes and a locked refrigerator for milk storage. To reserve a time slot for the lactation room, email breastfeeding@psu.edu.

Community Health Resources

To ensure continued support for our students, UHS is introducing the Paw Pantry, an initiative designed to support students experiencing food insecurity. Also located in the community health hallway on the second floor of the Student Health Center, the Paw Pantry offers a wide range of essential items, including grab-and-go foods, toiletries, laundry necessities (available upon request) and paper goods.

“Community Health is committed to providing the resources and support students need to navigate the challenges of college life and all aspects of their lives," said Dr. Carmelita Whitfield, associate director of community health at UHS.

These updates and renovations further UHS’s commitment to continually enhancing the student experience by providing essential health services and creating spaces that promote well-being. For more information on University Health Services, visit the Student Affairs website.

“We are continually evaluating our services and processes to improve the student experience at the Student Health Center,” said Natahsha Baumgartner, assistant director of UHS operations. “By establishing peer greeters and clinical services check-in kiosks just inside the main entrance, we were able to reimagine our lobby and create a space where visitors can relax and enjoy natural light in a warm and welcoming setting. We embrace the opportunity to serve the campus community and extend our wishes for a healthy and safe semester to all.”
