UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Health Services (UHS) has received its full three-year reaccreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care Inc. (AAAHC).

Occurring every three years, accreditation requires a written application and intensive on-site survey prerequisite for organizations to verify their compliance with AAAHC policies and procedures. The survey assesses hundreds of standards related to evaluating patient care, staff credentialing, risk management and many other critical areas.

“I am so proud and most importantly honored to be part of UHS and Penn State,” said Jamie Spicer, UHS compliance specialist. “This was a whole team effort; and what an amazing, compassionate and dedicated team we have. Because of this, UHS has been commended by AAAHC for our beautiful facility and our ‘super pharmacy,’ among many other aspects of our Student Health Center, even down to the organization of our credentialing charts.”

UHS, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, comprises more than 20 board-certified clinicians and over 100 ancillary and support staff. It offers a range of medical services, including urgent and nonurgent care and preventive care. UHS also offers a full on-site pharmacy, physical therapy, imaging, lab services and an ambulance service for Penn State students.

"This year's stellar report on Penn State's University Health Services by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care is a testament to the quality and commitment of every member of the UHS staff,” said Bruce Kraut, senior director of UHS. "Their attention to detail and to providing the best possible care to Penn State students is evident in everything they do, and it was clearly recognized and acknowledged by the AAAHC."

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care is a private, nonprofit organization formed in 1979. The organization serves as a leader in developing standards to advance and promote patient safety, quality care and value for ambulatory health care through peer-based accreditation processes, education and research.
