UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Stone Valley Recreation Area, an outdoor recreational and educational facility operated by Penn State, will host a recreation day and accompanying day of service on April 22.
The recreation day event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Stone Valley Recreation Area, located in Huntingdon County. It will feature a variety of free activities, including a climbing wall, hiking, lawn games, disc golf and fishing.
Fishing rods will be available to students for free, but they must have a Pennsylvania fishing license with a trout stamp. Boat rentals will also be available to students. Rental pricing details are available on the Student Affairs website.
Students can sign up for free transportation to and from the event. Shuttles will pick students up from the Intramural Building. More information about the pick up times can be found at the sign up link.
Students interested in giving back to the Penn State community can sign up online to volunteer at recreation day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Stone Valley Recreation Area staff will orient volunteers and split them into smaller groups to complete service projects. Once the service projects are wrapped up, volunteers can enjoy the free recreation activities until it is time to return to campus.
Volunteers should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. They are advised to bring a change of clothes, shoes for the afternoon and a water bottle. Transportation and lunch will be provided.
