UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham will deliver a free lecture at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, in Schwab Auditorium on Penn State's University Park campus.

The lecture is titled “The Soul of America” after Meacham’s latest No. 1 New York Times bestseller, "The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels." Meacham will discuss historic moments of partisan deadlock in America and how previous generations pushed through.

Meacham contributes to Time magazine’s ideas section, writes “The Long View” column in The New York Times Book Review, and regularly appears on CNN and MSNBC as a commentator. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a fellow of the Society of American Historians, and chairs the National Advisory Board of the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University. Meacham is a distinguished visiting professor of history at The University of the South and a visiting distinguished professor at Vanderbilt University.

The lecture is open to the public and WPSU will provide a livestream for students, faculty and staff at Penn State campuses to watch the event. A Penn State login is required to view the livestream.

The event is hosted by the Center for Character, Conscience, and Public Purpose, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, and co-sponsored by the Presidential Leadership Academy, the McCourtney Institute for Democracy, the Paterno Fellows Program, and the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Development, also a unit of Student Affairs.
