UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Parents Program is looking for enthusiastic and creative parent and family volunteers to help support the success of all Penn State students and their families. Applications for new volunteers will be accepted beginning Jan. 2 through Jan. 28, 2025.

Penn State recognizes that student success is enhanced when parents and families actively engage with University partners. By joining the Parents Program, volunteers can contribute to initiatives that foster a positive and lasting connection between families and the University.

“The best thing about Penn State is that it feels like an extension of your family for your student! Penn State provides an inclusive environment where your student can flourish,” said Clare McGee, chair of the Penn State Parents Council.

The Parents Council is a group of parents and family members who commit to volunteering their time and sharing their expertise to support the goals of the Parents Program and the University. Members work closely with the Parents Program to assist undergraduate families and strengthen their connection to Penn State.

Council members:

  • Attend two meetings each year at the University Park campus.

  • Welcome families to the University.

  • Share their own Penn State experiences.

  • Develop creative ways to connect with and support families.

Penn State employees are not eligible to join the Parents Council but may serve as Parent Ambassadors.

Parent Ambassadors at University Park

Parent Ambassadors assist with University events and programs, serving as volunteers for initiatives that benefit prospective and current students and their families. Ambassadors provide unique perspectives as current Penn State family members and support events such as:

  • Prospective student events.

  • Family Weekend.

  • On-campus welcome events and Student Send-Off events.

In addition, Parent Ambassadors may contribute to the Parent and Family Experience newsletter and attend special events on campus or in their local communities.

The Parents Program, a unit in the division of Student Affairs, serves families of undergraduate students at the University Park campus by communicating regularly about opportunities for both students and families, sharing news about the student experience, hosting welcome events and family weekend, and providing one-on-one support when needed.
