UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Two new exhibitions are on display this summer at Penn State University Park. "The Cabinet of Curiosities: Collecting Then and Now" and "The Center for Arts & Crafts Artist and Instructor Exhibition" are on display on the first floor of the HUB-Robeson Center until Aug. 4.
"Cabinet of Curiosities: Collecting Then and Now"
"Cabinet of Curiosities: Collecting Then and Now" delves into the history of museums, showcasing their transformation over time while preserving the enchanting allure of earlier Cabinet of Curiosity displays. This exhibit features selections from Penn State University’s Museum Consortium collections. It highlights a range of artifacts that illustrate how museums have adjusted to tackle current challenges in collecting and preserving. The exhibit’s reception will be held on Monday, June 10, at 4 p.m. in the lobby of the HUB-Robeson Center near the exhibition cases.
On display is a selection of unique items on loan from the Arboretum at Penn State, the Matson Museum of Anthropology, the Frost Entomological Museum at Penn State, the Penn State Breazeale Nuclear Reactor and the Center for Virtual/Material Studies, among others.
The Penn State University Museum Consortium (PSUMC) is a network of museum and archival professionals and education specialists associated with unique facilities and irreplaceable collections at University Park. PSUMC actively promotes Penn State’s commitment to engaged scholarship, hands-on learning and integrated teaching, research and service programs.
"The Center for Arts & Crafts Artist & Instructor Exhibition "
This exhibition features the artwork of instructors and students from various classes and workshops at Penn State’s Center for Arts & Crafts (CFAC).
The Center for Arts & Crafts offers a variety of non-credit adult classes and workshops throughout the year, which include pottery, drawing, watercolor, oil painting, stained glass, hand-built ceramics, dancing, crocheting, soap making and more. The programs encourage the discovery and development of creative skills within comfortable, relaxed spaces intended for beginners and intermediates. Classes and workshops are taught by Penn State students majoring in art or art education, students in other majors with specific skills and passions, and professional artists. July art class registration will open in mid-June at the CFAC office. Visit The Center for Arts & Crafts website for more details.
