UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On April 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in HUB-Robeson Galleries’ Art Alley, director in the School of Visual Arts Vagner Mendonça Whitehead will be carrying out a one-day interactive performance, "Left Listening: Conversations on Freedom, Care, and More," as one of the facilitated activities related to the "Capacities of Care" exhibition curated and organized by Aaron Knochel.
"Left listening," a space-making practice, combines both meditation and active listening with anti-racist literature, that is temporalized through knitting craft. Whitehead exemplifies his approach to making art, which is to display accidental and forced intersections of personal experiences, histories, current events, geo-locations, languages, technologies and found artifacts.
During Friday's interactive performance, Whitehead will spend time with members of the public, and record his exchanges through knitting.
