UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The HUB-Robeson Galleries exhibitions, "Reunion" by Cannupa Hanska Luger, and "Unknown Forest" by Avani Patel can be viewed in the HUB Gallery and Art Alley.

'Reunion'

"Reunion" by New Mexico-based contemporary artist, Cannupa Hanska Luger, is an immersive, multi-disciplinary exhibition featuring sculpture, regalia, and digital media. The selection of works presented in this iteration makes up a spectrum of possibilities and sheds light on historical truths to tell a narrative of complexity in the act of survival. The reception for "Reunion" is on Friday, Oct. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the HUB Gallery.

All the works in this exhibition embody the celebration of food, shelter, and tools. They pay attention to gratitude for resources and technology while dreaming of remembering reverence for more than human kinship.

Luger is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes of Fort Berthold and is Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara and Lakota. Luger combines critical cultural analysis with dedication and respect for the diverse materials, environments, and communities he engages in. His bold visual storytelling presents new ways of seeing our collective humanity while foregrounding an Indigenous worldview.

"Reunion" will be on view until March 4, 2025.

'Unknown Forest'

"Unknown Forest" features paintings and drawings by New York-based artist, Avani Patel. Patel’s cultural background has had a profound impact on forging her identity as an artist. Indian culture is the starting point of her work.

As a young girl living in India, Patel fell in love with the patterns of dresses, exotic colors, the sound of music, as well as the spectacle of both theater and cinema. Patel also creates work from nature, which includes everyday surroundings of personal narratives and memories. This range of cultural experiences expressed through film, theater, music and performance are all sources of artistic inspiration for her. Patel said she believes that art has the power to raise awareness about major environmental issues and their cultural consequences.

Patel holds a bachelor of arts degree from Penn State and a master of fine arts from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Her paintings have been exhibited nationally and abroad, at places such as the American Embassy in Panama’s ambassador house.

"Unknown Forest" will be on view until Jan. 27, 2025, in the Art Alley.
