Penn State response to hateful actions on campus

The University is saddened by the hateful actions and destruction being shared in videos online of students who disrespected a memorial on the HUB Lawn at the University Park campus. This type of behavior has no place on our campuses or anywhere in our society.

We firmly denounce all forms of hate and hurtful, biased and racist speech meant to denigrate and insult any group of individuals.

The Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response is in the process of investigating these actions. Any student who is found to be in violation of the Student Code of Conduct will be held accountable for their actions.

We have the deepest empathy for all in our community who are experiencing pain over the complex tragedy unfolding in the Middle East. During this particularly tumultuous time in our world, there is significant disagreement and greatly varied perspectives. However, the pain and struggles of others do not diminish our own — recognizing this fact deepens our shared humanity.

As we did on Monday, we encourage our entire community to share in empathy for each other. We expect members of our community to exhibit respect for each other and strive to foster an inclusive community reflective of our institutional values
