Penn State Crew Club re-establishes Rent-a-Rower fundraising program

Penn State Crew Club is a group of student-athletes who competes throughout the east coast. Established in 1996 as a club sport program at Penn State, the club has expanded its fleet to more than 12 boats, successfully competing against other club and varsity crew programs at regional and national regattas, and has had alumnus medal at the U.S. National and Olympic level.

To help support these efforts, Crew Club has re-established its Rent-a-Rower fundraising program. Rent-a-Rower is a service program where members of the Penn State community or local areas can "rent" rowers from the Penn State Crew team to do any labor that they need to be done.

Rowers can be rented out for up to 4 hours of work for $60 per rower, a minimum of two rowers must be rented. Work can include yard work, painting, moving furniture, or other odd jobs at a home or local business.

During the first Rent-a-Rower day of the season on Sept. 23, the team helped a number of community members. The team will be holding two more Rent-a-Rowers days on Oct. 20 and Dec. 1. Sign up for one of the upcoming Rent-a-Rower dates at tinyurl.com/psurentarower.

As a club sports program, the major source of income for the team comes from biannual dues that members pay. These dues go toward paying coaching salaries, regatta entries, transportation to regattas and the maintenance of equipment. The goal of this fundraiser is to alleviate the burden of dues on current members.
