UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Embracing diverse perspectives and gaining multifaceted experiences defined the academic journey of Beatrice Gauthier, who has been named the summer 2024 student marshal for the Penn State Smeal College of Business.

From Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Gauthier will graduate Aug. 10 with bachelor’s degrees in marketing, telecommunications, and French and Francophone studies with a 3.98 GPA.

"Choosing to study marketing, telecommunications and French allowed me to bridge the gap between different fields and develop a unique global business and communication perspective," she said.

Gauthier received various scholarships, including the Davenport Merit Scholarship, Gentzler Trustee Scholarship, Eckstein Study Abroad Scholarship, Hintz International Scholars, Phillips Scholarship and Steinman Fund Trustee Scholarship.

Gauthier immersed herself in various extracurricular activities to complement her studies. She served as the video director for CommAgency and director of alumni relations and internal affairs for Happy Valley Comm. Additionally, she served as a special events competition chair for the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON). She also participated in organizations such as Penn State Network Television, WPSU-TV, Smeal Student Mentors and the Smeal Ethical Leadership Challenge.

Her dedication extended beyond campus through internships at A Soldier’s Hands, Harvard Business Publishing, Army Pink, Echo Lake Entertainment and Graphic India. These roles provided practical insights and honed her professional skills.

“My extracurricular activities and internships allowed me to build skills not taught in the classroom and to provide me with the direction on my career interests,” said Gauthier.

One of her most memorable memories at Penn State, she said, was her study abroad experience in France.

"I was able to really immerse myself in the French language and culture, and the experience increased my interest in pursuing further education and work opportunities abroad,” she said.

Upon graduation, Gauthier said she plans to seek opportunities in social media, content creation and digital marketing, ideally in Europe. She also intends to explore the film industry as a production assistant and return to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment marketing and film production.

Gauthier said that students should embrace every opportunity to engage with the Smeal community.

“By interacting with professors, advisors and friends, you will be able to take advantage of the opportunities and resources that are all around you,” she said. “Seek them out on campus through organizations and internships to help you reach your career goals.”
