UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In conjunction with the 2022 Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute (PIKSI), the Rock Ethics Institute (REI) is welcoming four speakers for this year’s summer lecture series.
"The PIKSI leadership team is so excited to bring these speakers, working at the cutting edge of the fields of trans philosophy and decolonial feminist theory, into dialogue with this year's brilliant cohort of students,” said PIKSI Rock Director Hil Malatino, assistant professor of women's, gender and sexuality studies and philosophy, and interim associate director of the REI.
“Each of them demonstrates that the discipline of philosophy can be capacious and deeply engaged with pressing questions that animate contemporary justice struggles. All of these speakers model the very best of such engagement, and PIKSI is a place wherein they can become mentors to the younger generation of scholars who are similarly sure to transform the field,” he said.
The goal of PIKSI is to help underrepresented students see they have a place in field of philosophy. To further that goal, the speakers will be appearing via Zoom later this week. All of the lectures are free and open to the public; however, advance registration is required at the links below.
All of the lectures are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
- Talia Mae Bettcher, professor of philosophy at California State University, Los Angeles, “Intimacy and Illusion”: A Sneak Peek, Friday, June 3
- Tasmin Kimoto, assistant professor of philosophy and women, gender, and sexuality studies at Goucher College, Theory for Traps, Saturday, June 4
- Emma Velez, assistant professor of gender and women’s studies, Assembling Decolonial Feminist Survival Kits, or Decolonial Feminist Lessons for Surviving Academic Philosophy, Monday, June 6
