In this talk, Wilson will share insights from her four-year research partnership with a multiracial community-based organization of adult and youth organizers dedicated to advancing education justice in Detroit, Michigan. In 2017, her Community-based Research on Equity, Activism, and Transformative Education (CREATE) study team won an award for their partnership with a Detroit-based community organization.
Her findings reveal how activism and community coalition building are crucial vehicles for equity accountability. She will highlight how this partnership has inspired her broader efforts to collaborate with community and scholar activists to leverage critical qualitative research for the public good.
Wilson explores the intersections of school-family-community engagement, urban educational reform and transformative leadership. Her work has specifically highlighted the educational advocacy, activism and school choices of marginalized families of color and the equity-based efforts of school-based leaders committed to better serving those families.
Wilson, a critical qualitative researcher, has published extensively in leading national and international journals, such as Teachers College Record, Educational Administration Quarterly and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. Her work also has appeared in many distinguished scholarly books and handbooks.
