Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture will host its first Sustainability Symposium from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in 233AB HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus. Titled “Convergence” and organized by Mihyun Kang, assistant director for sustainability in the College of Arts and Architecture and research professor in the Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the event will feature a keynote by Gabriel Harp, research director for Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru).
“The symposium will highlight, connect and amplify the sustainability research within the college and foster collaboration with the Penn State sustainability community and beyond,” said Kang.
The symposium will open with remarks from B. Stephen Carpenter II, dean of the College of Arts and Architecture, and Paul Shrivastava, Penn State’s chief sustainability officer and director of the Sustainability Institute. Following the keynote address by Harp, the symposium will feature presentations by College of Arts and Architecture faculty representing the Center for Pedagogy in Arts and Design, Stuckeman Center for Design Computing, Ecology+Design, Arts and Design Research Incubator, Hamer Center for Community Design and School of Visual Arts Studio for Sustainability and Social Action. The symposium will also feature presentations on sustainability initiatives in the College of Engineering and Smeal College of Business.
Following the symposium, there will be a reception in the Borland Project Space, where the "Convergence: College of Arts and Architecture Sustainability" exhibition will be on view.
