WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The entire cohort of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s 2024 surgical technology graduates passed the national Certified Surgical Technologist Examination on their first attempt. The group graduated Aug. 3.
“We are proud of the students’ performance on this important credentialing exam,” said Wendy A. Miller, assistant dean of health sciences. “Their success shows their commitment to their career choice and reflects well on the quality of the program and the team of educators who have worked with these students for the past two years. The graduates, most of whom had job offers before graduating, will shine in the operating room as skilled technologists.”
Surgical technologists are an integral part of the operating room team and assist in many ways during surgical operations. They prepare operating rooms and equipment, ensure a sterile environment and patient safety, and assist surgeons through a variety of surgical procedures.
The Certified Surgical Technologist Exam is conducted by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
The CST credential is required for employment as a surgical technologist in Pennsylvania.
To be eligible to sit for the exam, an individual must have graduated from a surgical technology program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
