WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Pennsylvania College of Technology has appointed Kate Hummel as senior director of campus life and the residential experience. She began her duties on June 10.

Hummel, who has extensive administrative, teaching and advising experience, comes to Penn College from Lycoming College, where she was associate dean of students. She was director of residential life and conference services at Lycoming prior to that. Hummel also has held positions in residence life at Garrett College in McHenry, Maryland; Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland; and Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

She holds a master of education degree in educational leadership (emphasis in higher education administration) and a bachelor of arts degree in child development (K-six), both from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She is a graduate of Leadership Lycoming and subsequently served on its Operating and Curriculum committees.

“Kate’s experience and expertise is second-to-none in the field of student affairs; her arrival will enable us to move student life forward in innovative and exciting ways,” said Jennifer McLean, dean of students. “Kate not only brings a record of significant accomplishment across multiple areas of student life, but also a spirit and sensibility that will further advance our strategic mission to support students in reaching their potential — both in and out of the classroom.”

Hummel previously served as a general member of the Association of Student Conduct Code Administrators and MACUHO (Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers), for which she also served as a Programming Committee member.

She is the recipient of the Pivot Award from Lycoming College (May 2022), a special recognition awarded to an employee who has made a significant contribution to the college’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Blue & Gold Leadership Award (May 2019), given to an employee who exemplifies significant leadership skills and characteristics.
