Pennsylvania College of Technology's HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) technology department has been approved as a training center for certification under the National Oilheat Research Alliance.
The certification program for heating, ventilation and air conditioning technicians who work with oil heat is offered in three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
"Penn College will begin to offer our HVAC students the Bronze certification exam in their third semester," explained Richard C. Taylor, associate professor of plumbing and heating. "Students that receive Bronze certification at the college may, in subsequent years, take the Silver and Gold tests as they gain experience working in the oil-heat industry."
In addition, Taylor was approved as a proctor for the NORA exams and will supervise the Bronze certification testing for Penn College students.
"This is of major significance to us all, as Pennsylvania College of Technology is one of the first colleges to receive this approval," stated the acceptance letter received by the School of Construction and Design Technologies from Michael S. Markarian, director of the NORA Education Center. "Attracting qualified individuals to careers (in oil heat) has been a major focus for many of us in this industry, and your proactive approach takes us further in that direction."
