Four new offerings highlight Penn College’s slate of summer camps

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A record number of Pennsylvania College of Technology summer camps, including four new offerings, will allow adventurous young women and men to explore the hands-on careers represented by the institution’s eclectic “degrees that work.”

Students entering grades nine to 12 at the time of participation are eligible for an annual Summer Camp Scholarship to attend Penn College. The registration deadline for all of the camps, whether day camps or residential, is Friday, June 2.

Vacancies remain in these overnight camps for high school students:

Architecture Odyssey Camp
June 18-22, $400

Discover the world of architecture and sustainable design in design studio, during seminars, on field trips to building sites and visiting with local architects.

Automotive Restoration (New for 2017)
June 18-20, $300

Campers will learn what it takes to return vintage cars and trucks to their former glory while they immerse themselves in the world of automotive restoration.

Design & Grow Horticulture Camp (New for 2017)
June 18-20, $325

Nature-loving campers will attend workshops on topics such as greenhouse techniques, plant identification and production, floral design, entomology and more.

Designing a Digital Future Camp
June 18-20, $200

Explore a variety of information technology fields including gaming, programming, networking, cybersecurity and mobile applications.

Engineering Camp (New for 2017)
June 21-22, $175

Campers will explore engineering concepts and careers such as robotics and electronics, plastics and polymer engineering, 3-D printing, machining, civil engineering and welding.

Future Restaurateurs Career Camp
June 18-22, $425

Join chefs from Penn College’s School of Business & Hospitality for this introductory camp focused on the ins and outs of baking and pastry arts, culinary arts and hospitality management.

Graphic Design Summer Studio
June 18-21, $400

Summer Studio guides campers through the graphic design process, which blends ideation, concept development and production in the creation of real-world visual design solutions.

Health Careers Camp
June 18-20, $200

Experience a variety of health careers including dental hygiene, nursing, occupational therapy assistant, physical therapist assistant, physician assistant, surgical technology and more.

Law & Order: Penn College Unit (New for 2017)
June 21-22, $175

Campers will learn about the law and our nation’s legal system with Penn College faculty, students and legal experts.

SMART Girls Summer Camp
June 18-23, $250

SMART Girls will experience math and science as a foundation for careers in technology. Campers will design and assemble quad-copters (drones) with cameras and get to work in the Carnegie Science Center Mobile Fab Lab. (SMART Girls is underwritten by corporate donations to the Education Improvement Tax Credit program.)

This summer’s day camps are:

Creative Art Camp
June 27-30, $160

Young artists entering grades 4-7 will focus on a different medium each day, including drawing, sculpting and sun-printing.

Youth Training for Athletic Development Camp
June 19-July 13 for 12- to 14-year-olds, $160

Campers will learn proper technique in strength and conditioning along with sport-specific skill training to improve agility, balance, power and speed.
