UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — WPSU and the State College Area School District will co-host the Multicultural Children’s Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at the State College Area High School South Building.

Discover the world through art, music and hands-on activities for children. The first 750 children registered in advance for the event will receive a take-home bag and multicultural book.

Isabel Reinert, executive director and general manager for WPSU, said the nationally recognized event is in its fourth year.

“We are excited to once again collaborate with the State College Area School District to bring this multicultural event to life,” Reinert said. “The community will be able to come together and experience a taste of new cuisine and learn more about traditional dance, art and music from cultures from around the world. We honor the diverse backgrounds of those who live in our community and are thrilled to host this festival.”

New to this year’s festivities, students in the State College Area High School Culinary Arts program will be preparing the menu for the international food sale.

Zach Lorber, culinary arts instructor for the State College Area High School Career and Technical Center, said his students strive to provide delicious foods in the most authentic ways.

“As an educational venture, we explore many global cuisines and seek to replicate them to the best of our abilities. We have found great success by engaging students with a familiar ingredient presented in a new way or a new ingredient in a familiar format,” Lorber said. “During the Multicultural Children’s Festival, we plan to offer a variety of global options while also including kid-friendly choices. Ultimately, we seek to honor the cultural differences and use food to connect people. We want to make sure we include everyone at the table.”

The Multicultural Children’s Festival is a free event, but advance registration is requested. Tickets will not be issued, but attendees are requested to check in at the door.

WPSU-TV, a Pennsylvania Public Service (PBS) member station, serves 24 counties in central Pennsylvania and reaches 515,000 households, and WPSU-FM is accessible to more than 450,000 listeners in 13 counties. The public media station also includes WPSU Digital Studios, which offers original web series that explore science, arts and culture.
