UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Outreach plays a strategic role in advancing the University’s 21st century land-grant mission by connecting faculty and student expertise to communities around Pennsylvania, the nation and world. As Penn State celebrates its ninth GivingTuesday on Nov. 28, Penn State Outreach is inviting alumni and friends to show support for its mission by contributing to University-related community programs across the commonwealth.
“Penn State is on the front line of community outreach each day through the work carried out within the units dedicated solely to the University’s land-grant mission,” said Larry Terry, vice president for Penn State Outreach. “By financially supporting this mission of service and engagement on GivingTuesday, citizens can help ensure this impactful programming will continue across the commonwealth.”
Penn State Outreach is inviting alumni and friends to show support for its mission by contributing to the following Penn State related community programs:
Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center provides educational and recreational opportunities for families, schools and corporate groups and is requesting support for its program to improve animal care areas.
OLLI at Penn State provides community members aged 50 years and better the opportunity to learn, explore and connect through education and social experiences and is requesting support to keep OLLI’s sponsored programs affordable for OLLI participants.
Fund a Penn State student to experience the 2024 spring semester as an intern for WPSU-FM, which provides over-the-air and digital coverage for 13 counties in central Pennsylvania.
Contribute to funding that will enable WPSU to create new Cozy Corners in Lock Haven and Philipsburg and continue its upkeep of the five other sites around the Commonwealth. Cozy Corners are welcoming and playful child engagement spaces traditionally set up in waiting areas of service centers and community organizations.
Support students enrolled in City Semester through the Penn State Center Pittsburgh. The immersive student internship program is a collaboration with organizations in the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas with a focus on urban sustainability.
Support the expansion of the Readiness Institute at Penn State Summer Program for high-school-aged learners in central Pennsylvania. The RI Summer Program gives learners the opportunity to upskill/reskill cognitive ability and competencies, develop greater social-emotional intelligence and improve modern literacies that raise digital, cultural and financial awareness.
Fund transportation for students from around Pennsylvania to visit The Arboretum at Penn State which strives to be a place of beauty and renewal, a venue for the arts, and a pathway to discovery and enrichment.
Broaden the reach and awareness of Penn State’s impact on K-12 educators and administrators by supporting the K-12 Engagement Network, which reaches all public, private and charter schools in Pennsylvania.
“Penn State Outreach units are advancing lifelong learning and community well-being in so many ways,” said Susan Kukic, senior director of Development and Alumni Relations. “We invite our friends, old and new, to learn more about us and how we serve and strengthen Penn State's land-grant mission. Every gift to any of Penn State Outreach's GivingTuesday campaigns, however modest, supports our work and lets us know that you feel strongly about the need for it to continue.”
Gifts during GivingTuesday advance the University’s historic land-grant mission to serve and lead. Through philanthropy, alumni and friends are helping students to join the Penn State family and prepare for lifelong success; driving research, outreach and economic development that grow our shared strength and readiness for the future; and increasing the University’s impact for families and communities across the commonwealth and around the world.
