UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State will celebrate 10 years of GivingTuesday on Dec. 3, and Penn State Outreach invites alumni and friends to participate in this anniversary milestone by making a gift to support community outreach and student programs facilitated by The Arboretum at Penn State, K-12 Engagement Network, OLLI at Penn State, Readiness Institute at Penn State, Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center and WPSU.
True to Penn State GivingTuesday tradition, the celebration is kicking off early on Monday, Dec. 2, at 18:55 (6:55 p.m. EST) — a nod to the year in which the University was founded. Contributions can be made to participating Penn State Outreach programs through the following webpages:
-
Fund transportation for students from around Pennsylvania to visit The Arboretum at Penn State, which strives to be a place of beauty and renewal, a venue for the arts and a pathway to discovery and enrichment.
-
Support the Penn State K-12 Engagement Network by funding Penn State + K-12 Summits. The immersive, two-day events gather school leaders from around the commonwealth to tackle critical challenges with guidance from Penn State experts in areas like technology, mental health, entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability.
-
Support OLLI at Penn State University Park programs, which provide community members aged 50 years and better the opportunity to learn, explore and connect through education and social experiences. Outreach is requesting support to keep OLLI’s sponsored programs affordable for participants.
-
Support high-school-aged learners in the counties of Allegheny, Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Somerset who are enrolled in the Readiness Institute at Penn State Summer Discovery.
-
Support programming at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center that provides educational and recreational opportunities for families, schools and corporate groups.
-
Help fund a Penn State student to experience the 2024 spring semester as an intern for WPSU-FM, which provides over-the-air and digital coverage for 13 counties in central Pennsylvania.
-
Contribute to funding that will enable WPSU to support Cozy Corners around the commonwealth. Cozy Corners are welcoming and playful child engagement spaces traditionally set up in waiting areas of service centers and community organizations.
“Penn State is on the front line of community outreach each day through the work carried out within the units dedicated solely to the University’s land-grant mission to provide education, research and public service to the citizens of Pennsylvania,” said Larry Terry, vice president for Penn State Outreach. “By financially supporting this mission of service, engagement and student success on GivingTuesday, citizens can help ensure this impactful programming will continue across the commonwealth.”
Gifts made on GivingTuesday advance the University’s historic land-grant mission to serve and lead. Through philanthropy, alumni and friends are helping students to join the Penn State family and prepare for lifelong success; driving research, outreach and economic development that grow our shared strength and readiness for the future; and increasing the University’s impact for families, patients and communities across the commonwealth and around the world.
