PHILADELPHIA — Education professionals, entrepreneurs and AI-industry experts are invited to attend the inaugural East Coast Global Silicon Valley (GSV) x Penn State event. The Global Impact Forum (TGIF) will be held Sept. 22-25 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

“It is my pleasure to announce that Penn State has partnered with Global Silicon Valley to collectively empower communities, businesses and individuals to accelerate positive impact, economic development and upward social mobility through education and innovation,” said Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi.

“Accelerating AI for Good” will be the theme for the inaugural GSV x Penn State TGIF as attendees explore ways to foster positive impact through education and innovation while building local-to-global connections with industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and education professionals.

Registrants will experience panel discussions, interactive workshops and keynotes featuring global leaders and subject-matter experts, while engaging with top-tier talent at student showcases and product demonstrations in the following event tracks:

  • Agriculture and Food Security
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Life Sciences
  • Longevity and Life Quality
  • Robotics

Devon Diaz, AI ethics officer with the Army Artificial Intelligence Integration Center, will be one of the panelists discussing the use of responsible AI.

“Our job is to look at the use of artificial intelligence and be sure the United States Army is using this creative opportunity in an ethical way,” Diaz said. “Industry goes at this from all angles, there is not one proven method as technology consistently changes. Our work involves creating a framework through risk assessment and mitigation to take effective steps to ensure AI is used in a responsible way throughout its life cycle.”

Other featured speakers include:

  • Alka Patel, director of technology security policy for the U.S. State Department.
  • Vic Vuchic, adviser to the president of U.S. programs for The Gates Foundation.
  • Esther Wojcickci, journalist, educator and “Godmother of Silicon Valley.”
  • Chris Wood, executive director and co-founder of LGBT Tech.
  • Hadi Pardovi, founder and CEO of Code.org.
  • John New, chief executive officer and founder of WorkMerk and 98 Octane, will share internship opportunities and best practices with students working with the Nittany AI Alliance.

Michael Moe, chief executive officer and founder of GSV, said he is thrilled to collaborate with Penn State for TGIF.

“We don't need another conference where people talk about interesting ideas and go home and that's it,” Moe said. “This is about catalyzing big ideas for change and creating scaled impact.”
