UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Student Engagement Expo on Nov. 9 will showcase how students are learning from their out-of-classroom experiences and enriching their lives through student engagement.
Sponsored by the Student Engagement Network (SEN), the Expo gives students the chance to share their experiences through the many modes of student engagement: clubs, internships, sports, research, travel, artistic ventures and more. Events will start at 6 p.m. in HUB-Robeson Center, University Park campus.
The 2022 Expo will also mark the launch of the Penn State Engagement App, which connects students with the wide range of engagement experiences available to them at Penn State. It was created with the help and input of hundreds of Penn State faculty, staff and students.
“The Engagement App not only serves as a virtual hub for student information and a place of connection, but it also provides a framework for students to understand and intentionally seek and accomplish elements of student engagement during their undergraduate years,” said Michael Zeman, director of the Student Engagement Network. “We couldn't have done it without the help of our alumni partners, Navengage.”
To celebrate the launch, the app developer Navengage will headline this year’s Expo event. Navengage was founded by Andrew Strause (management information systems, class of 2017), Dan Lordan (biology and political science, class of 2017) and Colleen McBride (advertising, class of 2019).
“Our unique journeys at Penn State brought us together to create Navengage and partner with Penn State to rethink the student experience,” Strause said. “Unlike traditional higher ed technology, the Engagement App is built with a student-first mentality that recognizes the individual wants and needs of every student, no matter where they are in their Penn State journey. Engagement and belonging are fundamental parts to student success, and we’re excited to share why the groundbreaking work being done at Penn State is important to Navengage’s mission.”
The Expo will also feature poster exhibits, performances and lightning talks from current Penn Staters about their personal engagement experiences.
“I think it’s important that current students hear from their peers about the experiences they’re having both inside and outside of Penn State that complement their academics,” Zeman said. “For faculty, staff and others in the University community, this is a way for them to think about how they can connect their work to student engagement.”
