UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — David Bradley, custodial programs supervisor in Penn State's Office of the Physical Plant, has been selected as a finalist for the ISSA Rising Star Award. This honor recognizes emerging leaders who demonstrate exemplary leadership and influence in the custodial industry.

Bradley is in the running for the national honor due to his selection as one of 30 members of the inaugural class of ISSA Emerging Leaders

Bradley began his career nearly two decades ago as a dishwasher at the Nittany Lion Inn. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced to his current leadership position, where he oversees custodial programs and training across the University's facilities. His deep understanding of every level of custodial work has enabled him to drive collaboration, innovation and efficiency.

Reflecting on his journey, Bradley said, “Being named a finalist for the ISSA Rising Star Award is an incredible honor. I’m proud of the work we do at Penn State, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a safer, cleaner campus for students, staff and visitors.”

Bradley's contributions extend beyond daily operations. He has been instrumental in developing cleaning technologies and practices, leading research initiatives, testing new products, and collaborating with manufacturers to enhance cleaning processes. His leadership was crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he helped develop campus-wide cleaning protocols that prioritized health and safety.

"Dave's innovative approach and leadership have significantly impacted our campus," said Russell Rang, assistant vice president of operations in the Office of Physical Plant. "His dedication to sustainability and operational excellence has made a lasting impact on Penn State’s facilities and our community."

As an advocate for sustainability, Bradley co-authored Penn State's Blue Cleaning manual, promoting environmentally friendly practices. He also has trained hundreds of custodial professionals, emphasizing the importance of ongoing education and community engagement.

The winner of the ISSA Rising Star Award will be determined by public vote, with voting closing on Oct. 25. The winner will be announced in November.
