UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing will be hosting their second annual WE LEAD Inspirational Leader Speaker Series virtual webinar event on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 pm. The webinar event requires registration and will be available via Zoom.

The event’s speaker, Kelly Wolgast, will present "What Should You Expect From a Leader?", sharing her perspectives on leadership, what makes a great leader, and women in military leadership positions. There will be an additional Q&A session at the end.

Wolgast is a retired colonel in the United States Army, director of the Penn State COVID-19 Operations Control Center, associate dean for Outreach and Professional Development and an associate teaching professor in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.

According to Susan Leight, director of the WE LEAD Leadership Academy, leading is foundational to all that is done in the nursing practice. Now, more than ever, nurses have an obligation to prepare the next generation of nurse leaders with the knowledge, skills, and competencies they need to build a culture of health around the world.

“We are thrilled Dr. Wolgast will be presenting for our Inspirational Leader Series. She is truly someone who embodies the saying 'knows the way, goes the way and shows the way,'” said Leight.

WE LEAD uses experiential learning to add depth to the student experience, covering topics like entrepreneurship, negotiation, and innovation. The themes and curriculum were developed around the ANA’s Leadership Institutes pillars of leading yourself, leading others and leading the organization.

Currently, the program is designed to target upper division undergraduate students in their third year, regardless of campus location.
