UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is excited to present two in-person and online faculty development simulation course sessions for nurse educators in April and May.

The in-person sessions will be held in the Nursing Sciences Building at University Park in the Simulation Laboratory. The virtual learning module portion will open for registration in March; the first in-person session will be held April 30-May 2, and the second from May 23-25.

Attendees may select their preferred in-person session, with only one in-person session being required.

This dynamic theory-based professional development curriculum invites all active healthcare education faculty, including hospital-based or higher education-based educators to participate. Register soon, as there is 30-participant capacity for the virtual session and 15 for in-person live sessions.

“Simulation is a powerful instructional strategy that enables students to develop independent clinical judgment; however, in order to maximize its effectiveness, best practices need to be followed. This course enables participants to get hands-on practice in developing, facilitating, and debriefing a simulation-based learning experience with support and guidance by expert simulation educators,” said Chris Garrison, associate teaching professor and Simulation Lab director.

The cost to register is $1,950, which includes access to online learning modules, facilitated learning by course faculty, one in-person dynamic simulation laboratory session, and Nursing Continuing Professional Development contact hours. For Penn State Nursing faculty this opportunity is free.

Participants can earn a total of 32.75 contact hours for full course completion. Lodging and travel information is available at registration.

Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is approved with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Approver Unit, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
