HERSHEY, Pa. — Dr. Abigail Myers, a physician in the Department of Pediatrics, is featured for September in the “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program at Penn State College of Medicine.
“Dr. Myers is the best facilitator,” a current student wrote. “I especially liked how she conducted group feedback because I was able to hear critiques from my teammates. She also studies the material beforehand, and it shows. She is serious about our education, yet so jovial and funny.
Myers is a native of Hershey. She earned her medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia, and completed her pediatric residency at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pennsylvania. After two years in private practice, Myers returned to Hershey to join Penn State Health Pediatrics, where she is an attending physician and teaches pediatric residents as well as first- and third-year medical students.
As an assistant professor at Penn State College of Medicine, Myers works with medical students in their pre-clinical years, serving as a problem-based learning master facilitator, society advisor coach and Gastrointestinal/Nutrition course director. Though her three young sons keep her busy, she said, she is an avid reader who tries to join as many book clubs as possible and can be counted on for book recommendations when teaching. She also enjoys playing tennis and watching all the sports her sons participate in.
Penn State College of Medicine’s Office for a Respectful Learning Environment recognizes exceptional faculty, residents and fellows with the monthly “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program. One faculty member and one resident/fellow are highlighted each month for their contributions.
