UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State College of the Liberal Arts students looking to celebrate and explore the endless possibilities of a liberal arts degree can participate in Love Liberal Arts Week events held Feb. 10 to 14 and hosted by Liberal Arts Student Services.
From discovering careers in the romance languages and navigating the federal government job market, to learning how to advocate for yourself in the job search and pursuing further education, these events are designed to help students uncover their passions, gain practical skills and connect their liberal arts education to meaningful opportunities. Liberal Arts Student Services will host 11 workshops, panels and activities to empower students to turn their passions into purpose and shape their future.

Monday, Feb. 10
10 a.m.–3 p.m. — Love at First Sip
All you need is love…and Liberal Arts Student Services! Drop by the Sparks Building lobby to help us kick off our week-long event with a cup of hot chocolate, a chance to explore how Liberal Arts Student Services can support you and information about the week ahead.
4–4:45 p.m. — Careers in the Romance Languages
Explore the diverse career opportunities available to students studying French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and other romance languages during this virtual event. Advance registration required.
4:30–6 p.m. — Chart Your Heart: A Liberal Arts Adventure (Drop-in Hours)
Drop into the Liberal Arts Chaiken Center for Student Success in 138 Sparks Building to talk to a peer success coach about exploring out-of-classroom opportunities such as education abroad, research, student organization leadership and more.
6–7 p.m. — Mindfulness Monday: Turn Your Passion into Purpose
What are your passions? Join the Liberal Arts Chaiken Center for Student Success in 139 Sparks Building for this week’s Mindfulness Monday event to discuss ways to explore topics you are passionate about and then identify related experiences and opportunities.
Tuesday, Feb. 11
3:30–5:30 p.m. — I Love the Liberal Arts So Much I Can’t Give Them Up! A Panel Discussion on Liberal Arts Graduate and Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate Degree Programs
Keep the love for your liberal arts education going by taking the next step—consider a graduate degree! Join the Paterno Fellows Program and the Office of Academic Advising in 112 Kern Building for an insightful conversation about graduate and integrated undergraduate-graduate (IUG) degree programs with a diverse panel of students and alumni from our IUG and graduate programs, as well as college and University staff. Stay for an opportunity to speak with panelists and peers casually over cookies and coffee in the Kern Building lobby after the panel discussion until 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 12
4:–4:45 p.m. — Love Yourself: How to Advocate for Yourself in the Job Search
Celebrate your strengths and stay true to yourself! This workshop in 124 Sparks Building or Zoom (Penn State login required) will help you confidently showcase your skills, set boundaries and navigate important decisions like disclosing aspects of your identity in the workplace. Register in advance to learn strategies to advocate for yourself, from networking to negotiating, while building a career that aligns with who you are.
5–7 p.m. — Letters from the Heart: Messages to Yourself and Others
Want to write yourself a note of encouragement? Have a positive message you want to send to first-generation students, faculty or staff? First-generation students are invited to join the Liberal Arts First-Generation Committee for an evening of spreading positivity in the Liberal Arts Chaiken Center for Student Success in 139 Sparks Building.
Thursday, Feb. 13
Noon–12:45 p.m. — Gov Actually: How to Get a Job in the Federal Government
Fall in love with public service! Discover how your liberal arts skills can lead to a fulfilling career in the federal government. Register in advance to learn tips for navigating USAJobs, crafting a standout résumé and finding opportunities to make a national impact. This event takes place in 133 Sparks Building or Zoom (Penn State login required).
4:30–6 p.m. — Chart Your Heart: A Liberal Arts Adventure (Drop-in Hours)

Friday, Feb. 14
Noon–12:45 p.m. — Love Others: Careers in the Helping Professions
Turn your passion for supporting others into a meaningful career! Explore opportunities in the helping professions, from social work to counseling, education and beyond. Register in advance to attend this virtual event to learn how your liberal arts skills prepare you to make a difference, and gain insights into building a career centered on compassion and service.
Tuesday, Feb. 18
6–8 p.m. — Etiquette Dinner
The Etiquette Dinner originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Feb. 18. If you already registered, you do not need to register again. This Love Liberal Arts Week, fall in love with the art of professional dining! Whether it’s navigating a formal networking dinner or impressing someone with your polished table manners, we’ve got you covered. Learn to decode the mysteries of place settings, gracefully juggle conversations while knowing which glass is yours and handle any mishap with poise. This event will take place in Coaly Ballroom, Graduate by Hilton State College. Please note: Registration for this event has closed.
