Teaching with Technology virtual workshops return for fall 2023 semester

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) is hosting a "Teaching with Technology" (TwT) virtual workshop series this fall to encourage instructors to use University-approved technologies in innovative ways to engage students in relevant, meaningful and inclusive learning.

Sessions in the TwT workshop series will include:

  • “Prep and Practice: Creating your Digital Syllabus.” New faculty are invited to join TLT and the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence for a session focused on helping faculty create their digital syllabi.  
  • “IMPACTful Learning: Bridging Technology, Empathy and Education through Interactive Gameplay.” Participants will delve into IMPACT, an engaging, card-based exploratory game designed to stimulate thought-provoking conversations on how technology shapes society. From fostering empathy to analyzing potential tech influences, IMPACT creates an immersive learning space for nuanced discussions.
  • “Learning Tools Exploration: Content Visualization Tools.” Faculty will preview various learning tools designed to enhance how content is displayed for students in their courses.
  • “Enhancing Instructional Materials Using Generative AI Tools.” Participants will learn how to use generative AI tools to enhance and support instruction, such as creating content (i.e., quiz banks, lesson plans, assignment instructions, etc.), drafting comments, and answering frequently asked questions.
  • “Prep and Practice: Top Hat Course Engagement.” Faculty will see how features in Top Hat, an engagement platform for teaching and learning, can make student learning more engaging, interactive, accessible, and connected.
  • “Advancing DEIB via Instructional Technology.” TLT will offer participants ways to focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging through the lens of instructional technology. 
  • “Engaging Students in Remote Synchronous Classrooms.” Faculty will explore various instructional technologies to engage students in a remote synchronous classroom setting.
  • “Technology-Enabled Feedback.” Participants will discover how to use Penn State-recommended technology tools to provide effective, efficient feedback to students that encourages motivation and success in their courses.

Most sessions are an hour in length. The series runs through Nov. 15.
